Nigerian Child Passport Renewal UK — First Passports & Minor Renewals

Applying for a Nigerian child passport renewal in the UK or a first child Nigerian passport UK application for a child born in the UK? Minor applications face strict scrutiny at the High Commission due to statutory parental consent letters, birth certificates without both parents' names, or unlinked NIN records. We separate child renewals from fresh applications and verify every document before you travel to biometrics.

What Our Nigerian Child Passport Service Includes

Child applications carry the highest query rate at the High Commission — we remove every cause of it we can control.

Parental attendance rule: at least one parent or legal guardian accompanies the child to biometrics at the official centre shown on your appointment confirmation. If only one parent attends, carry the other parent's consent — or custody / sole-responsibility evidence. We prepare both sets.

Parental consent letter drafted for you

We format the statutory consent letter addressed to the Comptroller General / Immigration Attaché at the Nigeria High Commission, signed by the appropriate parent(s).

Guardianship & custody document review

Court orders, death certificates, or sole-responsibility evidence checked against High Commission expectations.

Birth certificate check

We confirm the certificate shows both parents' full legal names and matches the child's passport and NIN records.

Child NIN linkage check

Even newborns need an 11-digit NIN linked to a parent's record — we verify the link before submission, or refer you to a licensed UK enrolment provider first.

Parents' passport & UK status matching

Colour biodata copies of both parents plus evidence of UK legal stay, cross-checked for name consistency.

Attendance briefing pack

Arrival, dress code and document-order instructions for the parent accompanying the child to biometrics.

How This Service Runs

Four stages, all remote until a parent and child attend biometrics together.

1

Free family eligibility check

Send the child's passport bio-page (if any), birth certificate and parents' NINs. We confirm renewal vs first passport and flag guardianship gaps the same working day.

2

Document upload & first review

Within 2–3 working days of complete renewal documents (3–5 for a first passport) we return one numbered correction list — including exactly whose signatures your consent letter needs.

3

Official application & payment

We complete and submit the NIS application for you, based on your documents; you pay the $162 official fee and the £20 admin charge directly on the official portals, and save the Payment and Acknowledgment Slips in your case folder.

4

Parent accompanies child to biometrics

At least one parent attends with the child, carrying the pre-sorted document pack and the one-page checklist we send 48 hours before attendance.

Child Passport Fees: Two Clearly Owned Payments

1. Official NIS Government Fee

Paid by you, directly on the official NIS payment portal — never through us. We guide each payment and keep copies of the official receipts in your case folder. Non-refundable once paid.

  • Minor (0–17) · 32 Pages · 5 Years$162 (incl. $12 gateway)
  • High Commission admin charge£20

Same government fee as the 5-year adult booklet — there is no separate child rate. 10-year booklets are not available to minors under 18. The £20 admin charge follows the September 2026 notice and is reconfirmed per case.

2. Our Application-Support Fee

Paid to us only after you approve the written quote. Includes professional drafting of the statutory parental consent letter, guardianship review, NIN linkage check and the attendance briefing pack.

  • Flat support fee (per case)£50
  • Consent letter draftingIncluded

Estimated total ≈ £198 at $1 ≈ £0.79 (our £50 + $162 + £20). Official fees and exchange rates are confirmed per client at quote time — never fixed in advance.

Separate clocks, never added: our review (2–3 working days renewal · 3–5 first passport) · appointment wait (variable) · NIS 2026 standard — 21 days after successful enrolment for a reissue, 42 days for a fresh passport, subject to child-document checks · dispatch or collection. No legitimate “express government processing” fee exists. See the full Nigerian passport renewal fee breakdown.

Why Child Passport Applications Get Refused

The six failure modes specific to child applications — and exactly how each one is prevented.

Missing or improperly signed parental consent

A consent letter signed by only one parent when both are named on the birth certificate — or addressed incorrectly — stops the minor's file at reception.

How we prevent it: We draft the statutory letter to the correct addressee and confirm exactly whose signatures your situation requires.

Birth certificate without both parents' names

A certificate omitting the father's or mother's full legal name triggers a guardianship query that cannot be resolved at the counter.

How we prevent it: We verify the certificate before you book, and advise on corrections or supporting evidence where names differ.

Child NIN not linked to a parent

A minor's NIN must be linked to a parent's or guardian's NIN record; an unlinked enrolment fails portal validation.

How we prevent it: We check the linkage at pre-check and prepare the correction paperwork where the link is missing or wrong.

No evidence of the parents' UK legal stay

Missing BRP, Share Code, ILR letter, or British passport copies for the parents causes an avoidable document query.

How we prevent it: Your checklist specifies exactly which status evidence each parent should provide.

Non-accompanying parent's consent absent

When only one parent attends, the High Commission expects custody evidence or notarised consent from the other parent.

How we prevent it: We review your circumstances privately and prepare the correct custody or sole-responsibility documentation.

Non-compliant child photographs

Photos with a parent visible in frame, toys, shadows, or a non-plain background are refused for minors more often than for adults.

How we prevent it: Our briefing pack includes child-specific photo rules and tips for capturing compliant images at home.

Child Passport FAQs

Consent, custody, attendance and NIN questions — answered plainly.

Confirm the route first — renewal if the child already holds a Nigerian passport, fresh application if not. Then: enroll and link the child's NIN, gather the birth certificate and both parents' passport copies, have the statutory consent letter signed, we complete and submit the NIS form on your behalf, you pay the official fee directly, and book the biometrics appointment where at least one parent accompanies the child. We check every document before submission.

Yes. The child attends biometrics as directed by the official centre, accompanied by at least one parent or legal guardian. Photograph and fingerprint capture cannot be done remotely for anyone, including infants.

No — one accompanying parent is sufficient. The accompanying parent carries the non-attending parent's consent letter (or custody / sole-responsibility evidence). We prepare both sets so the desk sees a complete picture on the day.

Not yet. Minors of all ages — including newborns — must be enrolled with NIMC and linked to a parent's NIN record before the passport portal will validate the application. NIMC states UK enrolment is free; we confirm the current position at pre-check and refer you to a licensed UK enrolment provider.

In most cases yes. The High Commission expects consent from both parents where both are named on the birth certificate and contactable. Where that isn't possible, the accompanying parent must present custody evidence or a sole-responsibility declaration — we tell you exactly which document fits your situation and draft the letter accordingly.

The application can still proceed with the right legal evidence: a court custody order, a death certificate, or a statutory declaration of sole responsibility. These situations are document-sensitive, so we review your circumstances privately before advising which route the High Commission will accept.

10-year validity booklets are not available to minors under 18 because facial features change rapidly during childhood development, which would compromise biometric matching. Minors receive a 32-page standard booklet with a maximum 5-year validity. The official fee is $162 — the same as the 5-year adult rate, with no separate child fee — plus the £20 High Commission administrative charge, paid by you directly on the official portals.

Yes, with one difference: that route is a first issuance, not a renewal. The child needs a NIN first, plus both parents' Nigerian passports and the UK birth certificate. We handle first-issuance bundles too — the free family pre-check confirms which route applies before anything is paid.

Never upfront. You approve one written cost summary after the free family pre-check: our flat £50 application-support fee (invoiced to us) plus the official charges — $162 and the £20 admin charge — which you pay directly on the official NIS and High Commission portals, receipts in your name. Variable costs such as courier or affidavit fees are quoted first and labelled as variable.
